Sports

In Scoil Mhuire Lourdes pupils are given every opportunity to take part in different sport, in competitive and non-competitive settings. Pupils are fortunate to have Pat Spratt come in to coach them GAA skills from an early age.
Our Hurling and football teams have enjoyed much success.  This year our Football team took part in the Sciath na Scol Final. Although victory escaped us this time, the boys gave a fantastic performance.  As well as the Sciath na Scol competitions, boys from Third to Sixth classes take part in Football and hurling Blitzes and competitions.
The school also enters a five-a-side soccer tournamnet every year. We are very lucky to have coaches from the local GAA and Rugby clubs come to the school every week. Our GAA coach, Pat Spratt picks a “Player of the Week” and presents them with a trophy. Our Rugby coach, Vincent O’ Leary teaches the boys non-contact/tag rugby.
Over the last two years the school has entered an exciting new sport – Spike ball. This is a game very similar to Volleyball but it is played with a system of rotating the players. It has proven to be a big hit with the boys!
Swimming is made available each year for every class and the boys thoroughly enjoy the experience.  This year we are fortunate that all classes will be attending lessons in Bishopstown Leisure Complex.
In PE classes boys avail of many sports including, tennis, badminton, dodge ball, unihoc and other active and fun games.
