Sciath na Scol

Scoil Mhuire Lourdes encourages all students to take part in lots of

different types of sport and one way the students can do this is by

being part of the Sciath Na Scol team. Students take part in football

trials in September and hurling trials in January to try and make the

panel. We usually have a high turn out for these trials and the standard

is always very good. Our Sciath Na Scol team has done very in the last few years and

consistently get to their sections finals. We have a great tradition

of being a tough team to play against and other managers have

commented on our great sportmanship which we always expect our players

to display.

Some past students have gone on to make the grade with Cork,

mostly notably Nicholas Murphy. Currently we have a number of past

students who are playing with Cork under age such as Rob O Shea,

Cillian McSweeney, David Drake, Simon O’Brien and Killian O’Mahony.

Scoil Mhuire Lourdes also takes part in a variety of GAA blitzes in

both codes. We are lucky that our local club, Carrigaline GAA, provides

us with a quality coach, Pat Spratt, who takes all classes throughout

the year and trains them well. Pat, the current Cork Minor Football

coach, has also helped out with the school team when asked.

Every year students from 6th class take part in a multi-school trip to

London where they part in a football tournament against a number of

local schools. Our Sciath Na Scol team does very well in this tournament

and we have hosted the return fixture in the local GAA pitch for the

past few seasons.

2012 -13

Our school’s football team have gone through the group game without losing a game and this means we have another day out in Pairc Ui Rinn. Our lads played with great effort and heart in all games against some tough opponents but managed to beat them all. Players from 5th and 6th class were picked and the panel of 24 have all done well whenever they were called upon. Our captains for the final come from each of the 6th classes, Robert Lester from Mr Allen’s class and Jack Turner from Ms Sheehans.
