Physical Education

Physical Education

In accordance with our PE plan, all classes are taught all strands of the curriculum and receive 1 hour physical education each week.  Teachers use the primary school PE curriculum as well as the PSSI and IPPEA lesson plans to plan their lessons. We follow a standardised timetable where possible. Children from 2nd to 6th go swimming throughout the year. Infants cover the PAWS programme during this time. Children from the ASD classes integrate into PE lessons and also go swimming where possible.

Nov 2017: Gymnastics (Core Curricular Area)

We are very lucky have a top class gymnastic club in Carrigaline. For the next six weeks, each class will have a 35 mins session with Dan focusing on the Gymnastics curriculum. The children also receive 30 minutes of PE with their class teacher. Have a look at the pictures!

Skipping workshop: Nov 14th. We are thrilled to announce a skipping workshop for all children in Scoil Mhuire Lourdes. Lee Collins on is back by popular demand! Last year our boys skipped for months afterwards! Looking forward to a great day!

February 2018: Yoga

We are lucky enough to have a parent who has given up some of her free time to come in and teach yoga to our boys. This is an effort to promote yoga, wellness, relaxation, physical literacy and over all well-being.

March 2018: Healthy Schools HSE workshop

Our Active Flag co-ordinator felt that this physical activity workshop, part of a HSE initiative focusing on overall health, would be useful. We have since made the decision to become part of the Healthy School initiative and hopefully attain our first Healthy School flag next year. Croke Park time was allocated in order that she could share her new found knowledge and the three “Get Ireland Active” resource books were centrally stored.
